Immersion Assembly

Survivor is a popular american television show where new contestants are into win a vast amount of money. In order to win they need to adapt to the new lifestyle of living on a tropical island or be voted out. Once voted out they are forced to leave the island. This term Point England is learning about Survivor and how to Outwit, Outsmart and Outlast.

It is the start of term 4 so we had an immersion assembly. I love immersion assemblies because it is very interesting. An immersion assembly is held every term on the first day where teachers need to entertain the student and introduce our new topic.

Team 1 was very entertaining. Thanks to Miss King they held an exciting singing competition where they selected random student from our school to participate. As they played Katy Perry Roar and children sang, a movie was displayed on the projector of kids at the zoo interacting with animals. Marika was the winner of the competition. Marika’s prize was the chance to visit the zoo with Team 1. I agree that she deserved to win as she was very confident.

I also liked Team 5. They acted out their own Survivor episode. The host was Mr Wiseman while the rest of the teachers were contestants. Each teacher represented their own country. The challenge was a race to see who is faster at eating noodles with chopsticks and the winner would receive immunity which means they are safe from elimination.

The race began. Miss Clark is Asian and she had been using chopsticks since she was 3 years old, so she had a better chance of winning. The other teacher needed to adapt to this new way of eating.  Miss Clark was the winner.

I am going to enjoy this term because I love learning about animals and sadly this is my last term at Point England School.

Entrance To Luna Park
As I gazed at the immense clown, his gigantic mouth laid wide open. It was a clear Saturday morning, and I stood with my family in front of the Entrance of Luna Park. Luna Park is an enjoyable theme park, located in St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia. I went with my father, 3 of my sisters, my brother, Lisa my step mum and my dad’s mate Clint. Together we entered the clowns mouth.

The Spider
Did you know that the smallest spider species is called Patu Marplesi. One of the amazing rides at Luna Park is The Spider. The Spider was the first ride we went on. As I watched it in action I saw the fun it contained. The line passed quickly. We climbed into our carriages. I was seated with my younger sister Kacey. I was feeling pumped and waited for the ride to begin. My sister on the other hand was freaking out.

The ride began. The carriages started spinning. I felt like our carriages were like planets in our solar system orbiting the sun (spiders head) "This is amazing!" I yelled. We went up, down, left and right. We were all enjoying ourselves which put a big smile on my face.
The Twin Dragon
Do you get sea sick ? If so The Twin Dragon is not the ride for you. I boarded the ship with my two sisters (Viv and Lina). Together we decided to sit in the center of the ship. We pulled the safety bar down to our thighs and the ride began. It started with a simple rock, kinda like a rocking chair. Then began speeding up. "Weeeeee." We said joyfully. We had butterflies in our stomachs. It rocked back and forth. My younger sister Lina was having so much fun. I saw her smile and giggle. That made me happy.

Ghosts Train
Ghost. Are you afraid of them? The terrifying ghost train is a frightening ride full of jump scares. We were all able to experience this ride. I went with my younger sister Kacey. As the train headed towards the two wooden doors we had no clue about what was to come. The doors flew wide open. I saw nothing it was pitch black, but the train continued moving. I was excited.

I was able to see my arm, it almost turned purple. Kacey was squeezing on it like a crazy snake. All of a sudden the train made a right turned I almost fell out. How ever my grip kept me aboard the train. The train got faster. Bam! Daylight struck my face. The ride was over.

This is a picture of my adventure on The Great Scenic Railway.
Roller coasters are popular rides. Well at Luna Park there is a ride call The Great Scenic Railway. Amazingly it had been running for 103 year! The line was extremely long. It was roughly an hours wait. Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a positive attitude while waiting. I had no patience whatsoever.

Finally it was our turn. My sister Viv and I ran to the front row of the train. It began. I was excited as usual. The ride begin. It started at a slow and steady pace while going up. As we waited for the ride to get interesting we all admired the view. Once we reached the top the real ride began.

"Ahhhhhh!" We scream at the top of our lungs. We speeded down the railway in an intense speed. We slowed down. It was back to slow and steady. We all sighed in relief. Suddenly we were headed down another steep hill. It forced us to scream again. Followed by another steep hill but with a small in length tunnel. Finally we had time to recover.

“Get ready to scream.” Dad said. I spotted what I believe was the camera. An amazing thing Luna Park does is automatically snaps a quick picture of you and your families retention on the ride. If you wish, you can purchase your photo to keep that memory alive. Back to the story. I stared at the camera, while screaming my head off, as you can see in the photo. I feel that The Great Scenic Railway is one of Luna Parks top rides.

So in conclusion Luna Park is a great place to take your family for a day full of fun. The rides mentioned are not the only rides, for more info visit the Luna Park Website. My favourite ride was The Twin Dragon, although it wasn’t the most intense, I got to see my sisters having a lot of fun which I believe is the point of our visit to Luna Park, to have fun. Sometimes we didn't realize we were making memories - we just knew we were having fun.

Memorial Service

In memory of the anzac soldiers that fort for our country, Tamiaki College held a memorial service. A memorial service is held to remember and to show gratitude for the brave soldier that fort for us in WW1 (World War 1). I received the opportunity to attend the Tamiaki College memorial service on behalf of Pt England School.

It began and the whole of Tameiki College was there. We all showed respect by being quiet and listening. We began with a pray to bless the day and thank the lord for all the protection he blessed us with. People began giving speeches. Some thanked the soldiers for their service and sacrifice. It was a respectful time.

The band played the Last post while the anzac and New Zealand flag was lowered. Everyone was silent for a 1 minute. Once the minute was over, the Maori and English Ode was spoken by two woman. We sang the national anthem with pride. We were all dismissed. I headed back to school.

In conclusion we all showed how grateful we were of the soldiers. I feel we a should all be glad that the soldiers volunteered to defend New Zealand.

Polyfest 2015 Gift Bags

Waiting to receive a Black ASB gift bag, I was full of curiosity. “I wonder what is in there” I thought to myself. I watched all the other students draw objects out of their bags. My classmates and I were at the 2015 Polyfest collecting ASB gift bags. Finally I was given a bag by one of the generous female ASB workers. I politely thanked her.

I assumed there was something like stickers etc, but the bag contained a small sized ASB bottle of sunscreen, an ASB water bottle, an ASB hackey sack, a pair of ASB sunglasses and an ASB sun hat. This is an amazing act of kindness, acknowledging a vast amount of students by giving each and every one of them an ASB gift bag that had all sorts of different things in it.

I'd like to thank ASB for providing all these gifts, although not many people thanked them. I would like to say a big thank you for everything you have done. I am truly grateful.

2015 Polyfest

Polyfest 2015 has arrived and Pt England Intermediate is lucky enough to receive the opportunity to visit it. We were all super excited as this is the first time a Pt England Class had visited the Polyfest as a group.

The Polyfest is an annual event that takes place in Manukau. This is a vast festival full of food and culture. The Polyfest has been going for 40 years! It was created to help students express and learn more of their culture.

A big surprise that happened during our visit is that the wonderful John Key the prime minister of our beautiful country aotearoa, payed a visit. It was great seeing the prime minister at the Polyfest.

We also received plenty of free gifts. Such as Sunglasses, Hats, Wristbands, A 4min Hourglass, Sunscreen, Breakfast Crackers, Coconut Milk, ASB Bags, Water Bottles and Lollipops. These are a lot of gifts. Although some of these gifts are very unusual we were all happy.

In conclusion I loved our year 7&8 trip to Polyfest. I would like to say a big thank you to all the parent helpers and others for attending the trip and supervising us. We are all very grateful as without you we would not be able to go to the trip.

The Beach

Staring out the window at the clear blue ocean as it crashed onto the sand. The sun shone brightly on the wave making them twinkle like stars up it the sky. I was super excited. It was a beautiful Saturday evening and my mother and I were on our way to the beach. We always visit different beaches in the weekends to avoid boredom.

“Here is a nice spot” my mum said while parking the car.
“Finally” I replied impatiently.
We were driving around in search for a shady place to sit for hours. I hopped out of the car and stretched. My legs were aching, I had been seated in the car for too long. We then began unloading the car and setting everything up. e.g Preparing the food and spreading the picnic blankets.

We finished setting up and began eating. I was starving! Opening the food container there was a vast variety of food I could eat. I spotted Chocolate, Chicken Nibbles, Chips, Fruit, Dip, Bread and drinks (Water and Spirit). I had made up my mind, I wanted to eat Chicken Nibbles. I began eating it one by one. Until I realize that they we all gone. I had eaten all of the Chicken Nibbles. Once my mum saw that I had eaten all of the Chicken Nibbles she was shocked.

I then began playing on my IPod. I open the application Crossy Road. Crossy Road is a unique game. The aim of the game is to control your character to succeed in crossing the busy roads. It is an addictive game. The fun thing about it is that you can change your character to nearly whatever you want.

I extremely enjoyed the time I spent with my mum at the beach and wish to do it once again. In conclusion I think that the beach is an amazing place to visit if you wish to get closer to family or friends or even just to relax.

Rice Krispies

1/4 cup margarine
4 cups mini marshmallows)
4 cups of Rice Krispies

1.  Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2.  Add 4 cups of Rice Krispies.
3.  Using buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into 9 x 13 inch pan coated with cooking spray.
4.  Cut into squares when cooled.

This is a threat that should not be eaten a lot. It is not extremely healthy.

A Heathly Wrap

These are the ingredients you will need to create a healthy wrap
  • Tortilla
  • Tomato
  • Letis
  • Hummes
  • Ham or Shredded Chicken
  • Grated carrots

First you need to put the Tortilla on a board and spread hummus over it. Then put letis on top and sliced tomato on top of the letis. Put the grated carrots and ham or shredded chicken over the carrots. Finally roll it all up. There you have it your own healthy wrap.

This is an inexpensive meal and it is also healthy. It is nice aswell.
